Intro
I am so glad you are here; odds are you’re pregnant or are thinking about becoming pregnant and you’ve started to google, ‘what do I need for my newborn’ or something like that. I remember being pregnant and woefully naive about the number of things out there marketed towards expectant parents. It’s unreal and immediately overwhelming. Especially if you are the pregnant one, because pregnancy brain starts quick, and for me it was brutal. All those calories going to building my son cell by cell made me straight up dumb. And it was weird because I am used to being smart. Anyways I digress.
Here will be my ramblings on pregnancy, tech and all things related to babies in the tech world. I’ll talk about the tech stuff I used, the stuff I found to be crazy and the stuff I saw everyone one else buy. There’s so much stuff out there and it’s east to feel overwhelmed. A quick search on reddit will give you pages and pages of results and some of it is for the US and some of it is for Canada. Me like the blog are Canadian so I’ll focus on products that are available here and due to the recent tariffs and annexation talk, I’ll try to limit my time discussing products that are American made. Elbows up!
Full disclosure, I am not too tech savvy or tech inclined. I’m more of a tech recluse. I don’t have LinkedIn on my phone nor my business email. I absolutely refuse (REFUSE!) to have smart devices in the home, much to the chagrin of my partner. But I just don’t think they’re safe or entirely justified. So much of the writing may be me ranting against the intrusion of technology in our lives. I just wanted to give you a fair warning. But I think revulsion will be good for my readers, I’m not trying to hawk anything to you. I’m not funded by anyone, and I take my online safety very serious. Think of me like an older millennial auntie who is a bit disillusioned with our current obsession over tech and babies. I’ll tell you like it is, at least in my own opinion and won’t sugar coat anything. I’m also reluctant to encourage anyone to buy ‘stuff’ just for stuff-s sake. We have way too much in our homes and bringing a baby into the mix shouldn’t mean that we go into debt because we ‘have to have’ this latest and greatest gear.
Also something to keep in mind is that so much of the ‘stuff’ everyone is buying only really lasts for the first year. So this will be an economically conservative focused blog too. Stay tuned!
